Almandine (Garnet Group),

named in 1546 by Georgius Agricola for Alabanda in Turkey, an ancient gem cutting center, presumably where almandine was fashioned into gemstones. Almandine the most common garnet creates mixed crystals with Spessatine, Pyrope and Grossular. Characteristic mineral for metamorphic and pegmatitic rocs.
