These sculptures feature Goniatites (scientifically Goniatitida), the ancestors of the more famous ammonites. They lived about 360 million years ago in the Upper Devonian period, when the modern Sahara was still a thriving tropical ocean. Unlike the later ammonites, goniatites captivate with their clear, often geometric chamber structures.

An Irreplaceable Treasure

We look back with gratitude and a touch of pride: A quarter of a century ago, we had the great fortune to secure a container of these sculptures in absolute "Premier Quality." At the time, we had no idea how farsighted this decision was.

The market has changed drastically since then. Suitable raw blocks of this massive size and flawless preservation are now hard to find in the quarries around Erfoud (Morocco). We have not discovered sculptures in this exact artistic, flowing style anywhere else since – pieces where the fossils are not inserted, but masterfully carved out of the solid stone.

The situation is now so paradoxical that we even receive inquiries directly from Morocco. This confirms to us: This collection is a true rarity, an "Old Stock" inventory that simply no longer exists in this form.
