The DVD-ROM enabling interactive viewing contains 498 separate historical geological maps, 181 map supplements, 191 supplementary texts, 51 explanatory notes and 85 graphical illustrations. The maps and documents covering mostly the territory of Bohemia, Moravia, Silesia and Slovakia including adjacent regions of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and central Europe originated between the years 1790 and 1918. The historical maps depict in particular geology, mineral deposits and mines, petrography, soils and tectonics. An index of authors contains biographical notes on distinguished authors accompanied partly by their portraits. The publication is meant for those who are interested in historical development of geosciences in central Europe, for map collectors, schools and museums and even general public. It may also attract private sector, local administration and landowners exposed to geological risks caused by undermining in historical or recently abandoned mining districts.
