Rainbow Pyrite

Item number: MIN0504

Price: EUR 12.00

An atypical, rare find of quartz conglomerate cemented with pyrite with interference colors. The rising colors are caused by the interference of light on thin layers of metallic shiny and in places partly oxidized pyrite, creating a colorful optical play of iridescent colors. A new find from this summer (2022) comes from Bavaria and resembles the pyrite-sugared calcites that are typical of hydrothermal ore veins. But in this case, they are quartz pebbles cemented by pyrite during precipitation from cold solutions. The perfectly rounded pebbles are coated with a 1 to 2 mm thick layer of finely crystallized pyrite, which creates these colorful conglomerates.
