Garnets from Otov near Poběžovice form brownish-red to deep red crystals, which are chemically solid solutions between almandine (an iron-aluminum garnet) and spessartine (a manganese-aluminum garnet). Therefore, this type of garnet cannot be unambiguously assigned to any of the defined garnet varieties. Here, the garnets are genetically and structurally tied to bodies of granitic pegmatites, which served as feldspar deposits in the past.
